Gorilla Tracking in Uganda
Uganda is best known world wide as the most convenient base for tracking the rare and endangered Mountain Gorilla, of which just 320 remain in Uganda! The location of the Gorillas habitat is divided between Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Virunga Volcano Region, both located in the south west regions of Uganda, approximately 600 km from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.
Gorilla tracking permits are strictly controlled by Ugandan Wildlife Authorities and only 12 permits a day are sold for each area. 2 groups of 6 persons each set off early morning witha Park Ranger Guide, to locate two seperate habituated groups of gorillas in the dense mountain forest, and spend about 1 hour in close proximity to them.
Gorilla Permits are usually booked up to 6 months in advance, however we are often able to buy small numbers at shorter notice. They currently cost $ 500.00 each, and money is not refundable if your tour is cancelled.
Uganda Dream Safaris organises individual Gorilla Tracking Safaris, utilising a luxury Safari Style tented camp at Bwindi Forest as our base. The shortest possible time fo a Gorilla Safaris is 3 days, travelling from Kampala. However, we recommend that you take advantage of your visit to the region and spend a few extra nights relaxing and enjoying excellend game viewing of a variety of big game as well as birds and scenery with a visit to Lake Mburo National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park en route.
Your Gorilla Tracking Safari can be rounded off by a visit to the Chimp Sanctuary at Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria, which is partly funded by the Jane Goodall Institue and the Born Free Foundation. Ngamba Island is a day trip out on lake victoria involving a 1 1/2 hour crossing from Entebbe either by power boat or traditional canoe.
We are able to quote for fully inclusive itineraries, including Aiport meets, all transportation in our own carefully maintained 4x4 safari vehicles with English speaking Driver/Tour Guide, all accommodation, park entry fees, Gorilla permits, Ngamba Island Visit and airport transfer at departure.
