MOUNT ELGON NATIONAL PARK
Welcome to the land of the great sipi falls. This mountain area
in Eastern Uganda is a very beautiful place to see. There is a camp
built around a croft-like house originally built as a Governor's
retreat, on a cliff directly overlooking the mesmerizing Sipi Falls
and the Karamajong plains. This is a convenient stop if visiting
Kenya also.
DAY 1
Early morning at your Hotel. You will be picked up and you will
head east to the eastern part of the country. This will see you
go through Mabira Forest where you will get to see different tree
species and animals. You will go past sugar cane and tea plantations.
Along the way you will get to visit Ssezibwa Falls. You will have
lunch along the way. You will arrive most probably late afternoon.
Sipi falls has a rest camp near by and it is here that you can spend
the rest of the day relaxing and strolling
around. Spend the night at Sipi Falls Rest Camp or Mt. Elgon National
Park Cottages.
DAY 2
Early morning regroup at the lodge. After early morning breakfast,
you will head for a hike to the Mount Elgon Forest Exploration Centre
for a guided walk around this area. Later on, walk through the local
Sabiny people's vilages. You will return in the afternoon for a
meal. Later in the afternoon, you will be guided to the core of
the falls at the bottom where the water hits the rocks. Stand still
and listen and watch. You may take pictures also. Later on, head
up to the Caves. After this, return to the lodge. Spend the night
at Sipi Falls Rest Camp or Mt. Elgon National Park Cottages.
DAY 3
Early morning regroup at the lodge. After having breakfast, you
will leave Sipi Falls and head for Jinja, also in the east of Uganda.
Here you will get to visit Bujagali Falls. See the water rafters
do their thing and join in the fun at the source of the river Nile.
You will have a meal in Jinja before heading back for Kampala in
the evening. Retire at your Hotel for the night.
